I take the health and welfare of the breed extremely seriously, and make every effort to keep up to date with current science and opinion and share that knowledge with fellow enthusiasts, whether formally via membership of our two breed clubs the FLCGB and the SFLS or more informally via discussions with fellow owners. The recent initiatives by the KC to highlight the importance of genetic diversity for long-term health in pure dog breeding and make health information available to both potential owners and fellow breeders via their web pages is extremely helpful. Starlapps Finnish Lapphunds are members of the KCABS

Pups from this litter were checked by the vet after delivery and will be checked again prior to going to their new homes. In addition, as good practice indicates, the litter will be screened under the KC/BVA eye scheme at 6 weeks for those congenital eye conditions (PHPV and PHTVL (1.5% of screened dogs in Finland), PPM, and MRD (1.07%) which can show in the first few weeks of life. (NB no occular abnormalities found at 6 weeks). The 3-generation pedigree for the pups, can be extended by following the parents individual pedigrees on KoiraNet (see above). The inbreeding co-efficient of this litter is 0.5% at 7 generations, well below the breed mean value calculated by the KC. Ancestor loss (repeat ancestors as a percentage of potential unique ancestors) is less than the breed norm.
* Heikki's dam Black Blossom Miss Ultra is not registered in Finland so her litter sister was substituted to create this pedigree. The ancestors remain the same, including Sami dogs admitted to the register in recent generations. |
